It's A Good Life!

A couple of Latinesque/Future Jazz versions of all time House/Techno classics this week. Kicking off with a favorite of Detroit innovator Kevin Saunderson to close out his sets, of 'cause it would be the original was his. Kaori's "Good Life" version has stayed in the record boxes of numerous respected DJ's worldwide. Dropping in 2002 on Disorient a sub-label of the UK's mrbongo records, first thought to be an illegal remix but was a reworking by Berlin Techno dj/producer Thomas Schumacher, who had been dropped a demo tape by Kaori a well known Japanese vocalist while on a trip to the far east and he jumped at the opportunity to use Kaori's vocals to produce this cover of the legendary club anthem....still lovin' this!

Pussy Shepherd.

Guillaume Coutu Dumont has been around awhile, a native of Montréal but now re-located to Berlin, his early musical forays were as a percussionist in a funk band and studying latin & classical percussion as well as being influenced by the electronic music scene. Last November he delivered "The Pussy Shepherd EP" on Musique Risquée outta Canada and it's the A1 track that has been tickling my scrotum. "Safety meetings" brings a quality blend of funk with luscious gospel vocals to a percussive 4/4 stomper. As he himself says "I'm always looking to get the dance floors grinning with guilty pleasure" SHAKE THAT ASS.... Hey hey! yes indeed sir.

Lovers Dub

Loving this big time! A rude slab of techstep/dubstep/2step/dubblues can't quite describe what the sound is but who cares, it's wicked whatever. This limited edition white label by unknown artist AITON on ABUCS a sub-label of Hotflush Recordings and run by head honcho Scuba (AKA Paul Rose), one of the original dubstep dons who was responsible for some of the key dubstep releases during the genre's birth...Here "Lovers Dub" lifts the classic vocals from the Pointer Sisters version of Al Green's "Love and Happiness" to full effect and weaving them into a deep deliciously rhythmic bluesy jazz tech-step percussive riddim.....Outstanding tune!

Coming From A Broken Home!

It`s finally about to drop "I'm New Here" The stunning new project that's taken four years to complete - since XLrecordings boss Richard Russell found Gil residing at Rikers Island prison and offered to produce a new album...15 years since his last recorded studio LP, Gil returns with a contemporary masterpiece taking in many genres of sonic beats from hip-hop grooves to dark dubstep all wrapped around Gil`s unmistakably and irresistibly melancholic poetic tones.

Here i've used the 2 tracks "coming from a broken home pt1 & 2" and mixed them together to get the full effect of the poetry of the song in its entirety, a love letter to the grandmother who raised him.
